Raul’s Career and Achievements
Born in Madrid, the capital of Spain, Raul’s career and achievements are closely related to the city of Madrid. After starting his youth career in San Cristóbal, he played for Atletico Madrid and then Real Madrid, respectively. He scored 228 goals in 550 matches for Real Madrid, where he played between 1994-2010.
The Spanish striker, who was selected as the player of the year 5 times in Spain, became the top scorer 4 times. Having won 6 league championships with Real Madrid, Raul lifted the Champions League Cup 3 times.
Raul’s National Career
Raul’s national team career began when he was very young. He represented his country for the first time at the U-20 tournament in 1995. Raul scored 17 goals in youth organizations where he played for Spain. His first major event with the national team jersey was the 1998 World Cup.
Although Spain could not make it out of the group in this tournament, Raul made the difference. The Spanish striker later played in UEFA Euro 2000, 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2004, and 2006 FIFA World Cup respectively. Raul scored 44 goals in 102 matches for the national team.
Raul’s Coaching Career
Shortly after leaving football, Raul began his coaching career at Real Madrid, the club of which he is a legend. Raul’s coaching career did not last long. He first took over the Real Madrid U15 team on 17 August 2018.
Raul, who coached the youth, was later appointed to Real Madrid Castilla in 2019. The season he led the team had a relatively bad start with three wins, five draws, and five losses. Currently, Raul does not to be actively coaching an A team. Raul, who has a UEFA-Pro license, generally preferred the 4-2-3-1 formation in the Real Madrid infrastructure.
